Daphne Jackson

Daphne Jackson ( 1936 - 1991 )
IOP Blue Plaque
Location 5 St Omer Road, Guildford, Surrey
Unveiled Tuesday 28 April 1998 by the IoP President, Dr.Brian Manley Iop Branch South Central

She was a nuclear physicist who in 1971 became the first female physics professor in the UK at the University of Surrey. She realised that physicist mothers found it difficult to return to research after the birth of their children, or if they moved with their husband when he changed positions so she set up the Daphne Jackson Trust to provide them with fellowships.
