The Nobel Century

100 years ago, in 1901, the first Nobel Prizes were awarded. This meeting has been organized to celebrate the centenary. The Nobel Prizes, the first international annual prizes, began in 1901 in five subject areas named in the will of the industrialist Alfred Nobel, namely physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace. In 1968 the Bank of Sweden instituted a prize in economic sciences. The 1901 Prize in Physics was awarded to Röntgen for his discovery of X-Rays.
